St. Anthony's
Parish

St. Anthony of Padua parish was established in 1893 and was administrated by the Franciscan Friars from 1893 to 2004. Now a Diocesan parish since 2004 St. Anthony of Padua is a community of faith whose primary mission is continuing the work of Christ. Through our ministries, we work to strengthen our Catholic values and provide services to the community around us.

St. Peter's
Parish

Established in 1867 St. Peter Church in the Mission District was prominently a Irish Community. As the years have gone by and change comes thru the communities. St.Peter is one of the oldest parishes in the Mission District serving our community of devoted Catholics. In January 17, 1997 a Votive candle flickering on the Sacred Heart shrine flared up setting fire to the sanctuary, the S.F.F.D arrived and had no choice but to vent the church by smashing all its precious stained glass windows to extinguish the flames. The Mission District suddenly felt empty an devoid of vitality the morning after the fire.
St.Peters (now a 97% Latino Parish) soon rose from the flames like a sparkling new church. On June 30th, 2000 San Francisco worshipers gathered to celebrate the re-dedication of the fully restored St. Peters church.

A SEASON OF HOPE

Today we can bask in the imagery that the Mass readings offer us. In particular, Isaiah’s vision of a parched land that blooms with abundant flowers holds a message for each of us. Too often we are just like that parched land. We can allow ourselves to become absorbed in the waves of consumerism that grip so many. We look for fulfillment in the things that money can buy. Unfortunately, this leaves us like parched land, thirsting for something that money can’t buy. This holy season has much to offer to quench our thirsts. In a word, this season offers hope. We are told that those who are ransomed by God will know joy and gladness. For them, sorrow and mourning will be no more. Let us place our hope in these promises.

Weekly Reflection

"" The light of Christ is so clear and strong that it makes the language of the cosmos and of the Scriptures intelligible, so that all those who, like the Magi, are open to the truth can recognize it and join in contemplating the savior of the world"

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all in Christ Jesus. ----------Galations 3:28
